The Golden Hour
Chase away the chill with The Golden Hour, a blend inspired by Ayurvedic principles and the classic Penicillin drink. This spirited concoction combines the anti-inflammatory powers of turmeric and ginger with Manuka honey, lemon, apple brandy and rum. Creating a cocktail that’s as beneficial as it is delicious — or medicinal, one might say…
Mushroom Bolognese
As autumn sets in, it’s time for salad to take a back seat to heart-warming, comforting dishes that truly satisfy. Gone are the days of heavy, meat-laden sauces. With a medley of finely chopped mushrooms that mimics the rich, umami-packed depth of traditional Bolognese, our Mushroom Bolognese is a revelation in taste and texture, without the meat.
Not only is this dish a testament to the magic of mushrooms, but it also boasts a treasure trove of nutrients, making it a guilt-free pleasure that doesn't skimp on taste. Made even better with a glass of your favourite red wine.
Hazelnut Cacao
As we wind down to enjoy the delights of a long weekend what better way to indulge than with chocolate in multiple forms...
If your Sans Smooooothe bar hasn't mysteriously disappeared [it's hard to resist, we know], whip it into our luxurious Hazelnut Cacao. If it's already a goner, any ol' chocolate will do though.
For the early risers, navigating egg hunts, add a little vigour with a dash of coffee. And for those who like their evening peace with a punch you can always add a splash of Kahlúa.
Wishing you a super calm, chocolate-y chill Easter.
Master Tonic
The official start of autumn in the Sans studio is marked by brewing one of our favourite herbal tonics; a potent anti-inflammatory tincture to see us through the cooler months. There’s a gentle reassurance in the seasonal regularity of this ritual with all the distancing, pivoting and juggling we’ve been doing.
The ingredients have one thing in common — they are all nutritional powerhouses, made even more potent through steeping. Kick-starting your mornings with a shot of this powerful elixir is like a wake-up call to your immune, digestive and circulatory systems, helping fortify the body. If you’re brave, swig a shot first thing; we add hot water and sip through the day.
Crudités + Horseradish Aioli
The perfect spread to bring your favourite people round the table. Simple and nourishing, grab what’s in season from your fridge and team it with our Horseradish Aioli.
Pink Grapefruit Crush
Delicious, zesty and not too sweet, our Pink Grapefruit Crush is a refreshing cocktail with a super dose of vitamin C, bringing you a whole lot of goodness with a tasty bitter kick.
Quinine Syrup
Cinchona bark [cin·cho·na]: hailing from Peru & known for its healing medicinal properties, forms the base of this delicious Quinine Syrup. Forget store-bought tonic, this aromatic syrup will upgrade any G&T thanks to its zesty, super-dose of vitamin C. Our kind of medicine.
Pyaaz Chaa
Translated to 'Onion Peel Tea', Pyaaz Chaa is a warming brew commonly used in India as a home remedy for sneezing and flu-like symptoms. Usually tossed or discarded to the compost heap, the humble onion peel actually holds a wealth of nutritional benefits. Their high vitamin C content helps to nourish your skin, making it healthy and glowing from the inside out.
Once softened and brewed with ginger, cinnamon, and honey, the onion adds a low hum of warmth to the flavour, and there's no need to worry about bad breath — actually once brewed, it could be hard to tell what this tea was made from.
We recommend sinking a cup of this amber tea in the afternoon sun for an end-of-winter cure-all.
Salted Meyer Lemon & Sage Muddle
Without tipple, not without flavour. In support of dry July, we're mixing up a quenching beverage that will give your taste buds a shake.
Utilising ingredients that promote healing and vitality, this cocktail recipe hosts the satisfying tension of salty and sweet, adding joyful effervescence to the depth of your winter. A handful of sage leaves anchors the liquid experience, encouraging oral health and nurtures the nervous system.
And, what's to say, come August, you couldn't add a wee dash of liquor, too...
Meyer Lemon Salsa Verde
No one quite loves the Meyer lemon more than Alice Waters. This recipe is a take on her fragrant Salsa Verde, created by Chez Panisse chef Spencer Huey.
Lemons become abundant this time of year, and for good reason. Our version of this recipe highlights the Meyer lemon for its whopping source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that reduces inflammation, boosts the immune system, and stimulates collagen production within the skin... and eating for your skin's benefit is a notion we can get behind. Combine that with the powerful little mediterranean caper berry, and you've got a concoction that reduces inflammation and prevents cell damage. This quick-to-make, knockout salsa promotes vibrant health and maximum flavour.
So when your next sandwich, roast chook, or baked veggies are feeling bland or boring, bathe them in this zesty brew and get your meal singing.
Perry Vinegar
Slugging vinegar on the daily is not as fruity as it sounds. The benefits, we're beginning to realise, are giant, with the largest being that it boosts the immune system. It's the perfect time of year, then, to begin a little fermentation process to see you through the weeks of early winter.
In this recipe, sweet, ripe pears, loaded with antioxidants such as vitamin C and copper (both slayers of free radicals), are combined with the humble raisin, utilised for its hidden yeast buried in its shrunken skins. The resulting flavour is crisp and sweet, with enough of a bite to awaken your taste buds. We're swigging 1-2 tablespoons before meals or right before bedtime for maximum effect.
White Rabbit Juice
When you're seeking out a quick kick of health, a green juice is a well known path, but this White Rabbit will lead you down a new path of the goodness garden.
Moving beyond the usual suspects [bye bye cucumber and spinach], this recipe calls for a huge brassica hit. The unusual combination of cabbage, kohlrabi, and fennel offers a surprising zesty flavour that is [not too] sweet and sour.
Loaded with vitamin C and K, this juice can keep internal inflammation in check and improve digestion. Curious? Do as Alice does — follow the White Rabbit.
